The server machine does 10000 operations in 1.0186738967896 Seconds,
the CPU has got about 9816.6842514724 Bogoiips
IIPS
--------------------------------------------------------------
It's slower than a sleeping snail !!
It's Bogoiips, son of Bogomips. iips = Irrelevant IPS.
For the measurement of slower computing devices eg Sharp PC-3000's,
HP calcs, ZX81's, TRS-80's, apple II's.
It's simple, it's small (for those calcs with 32 bytes of RAM!),
and probably interpreted, for that extra level of inefficiency!!
The Problem : Count from 1 to 10000 (or more) in steps of one. Divide
by the time this takes in seconds to obtain your iips rating.
Can use any loop construct you like, though you should
use the fastest you can, to do justice to the speed of your
machine 8-).
Timing : The second hand on your watch will do.
Candidates : Anything that runs an interpreted language,
which cannot run bogomips out of the box.
Machine iips Language
------------------------- ------- --------------------------
Tandy PC1 50 BASIC
ZX81 56 BASIC - Slow mode
ZX81 222 BASIC - Fast mode
Sinclair ZX Spectrum 232 BASIC
HP-48 242 HP's programming language
Dick Smith VZ200 476 BASIC
TI/994a ?
Spectravideo ?
Tandy TRS-80 MC-10 714 BASIC (this is a laptop?)
ZX80 769 BASIC
Apple II{e,c} 1000
C-64 1050(g)
Vic-20 1100(g)
Kaypro ?
PC/XT 1250 BASIC
The above are just guesstimate rankings. You'll tell me
if I have blasphemed with any of these 8) If you have a good feel for
any of the machines feel free to supply a guesstimate - it will be
tagged with a (g).
Note: This will not take advantage of multiple CPUs, and is only an estimated speed. This will change depeding on how busy the server is.
